Thorncliffe Park Station Is the Last Ontario Line Dig to Start Here and the Last One Due to Finish

The excavators at Overlea Boulevard and Thorncliffe Park Drive West are the newest Ontario Line work in Thorncliffe Park. Metrolinx put the start of station excavation at "as early as October 13, 2026." Two other worksites on the neighbourhood's edges were already running by then, and both are scheduled to wrap up in 2028. The station corner is scheduled to stay a worksite until August 2030.

So the worksite that started last is the one that lasts longest. The change that touches the most daily trips came earlier in 2026, when TTC redrew the bus routes into the neighbourhood months before the first excavator showed up at the station site.

Three Worksites, Three End Dates

Each Ontario Line site around Thorncliffe Park has its own notice, start date and end date. Side by side, the schedule looks like this:

Worksite Location Start Expected end Hours and street-level effect
Millwood–Overlea temporary access road Millwood Road at Overlea Boulevard July 27, 2026 January 31, 2028 Partial closure of the southbound Millwood bike lane, plus short traffic and cycling interruptions
Don Valley Crossing piers South of Leaside Bridge September 2026 Mid-2028 Weekdays 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., some weekends, no TTC service impact expected
Thorncliffe Park Station Overlea Boulevard at Thorncliffe Park Drive West As early as October 13, 2026 August 2030 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with trucks entering and leaving the work zone

The two edge sites support the line as it heads into the neighbourhood. The access road at Millwood serves the work, and the piers south of Leaside Bridge carry the line across the valley. Both are scheduled to finish within roughly a year and a half. The station is scheduled for close to four years. If you picture Thorncliffe Park in 2029, the Millwood access road should be gone and the Leaside Bridge piers done, while the Overlea corner is still under construction.

The hours differ too. The pier work south of Leaside Bridge is allowed to run until 11 p.m. on weekdays. The station site's hours stop at 7 p.m. If you live closer to the Overlea intersection than to the valley, construction should go quiet earlier in the evening.

What the Station Notice Commits to at Street Level

The Metrolinx construction notice for Thorncliffe Park Station splits the work into stages. First comes excavation for the station's support building, then the station itself. After that, crews install underground services, place steel and concrete, and haul away excess soil. Expect excavators, dump trucks, telehandlers, bulldozers and concrete trucks at the corner throughout.

For daily errands, the key commitment in the notice reads:

"Access to residences, businesses, and TTC bus stops will be maintained."

The notice also says to expect noise and vibration from the equipment, and short traffic interruptions as trucks enter and leave the work zones. Traffic control staff will be on site to direct both drivers and pedestrians, and signs and safety barriers will separate the work zones from the street. Weather or other construction problems can postpone or extend the work, so treat the dates as Metrolinx's plan, not a promise.

The Bus Map Is Where 2026 Actually Changed

The station fence went up this fall. The bus routes into Thorncliffe Park had already changed in stages since winter, and those changes affect more trips than the fence does. TTC's Fall 1 service summary covers September 6 to October 31, 2026. Here is how the routes serving the neighbourhood stood in that summary:

  • 81 Thorncliffe Park: listed as temporarily suspended because of Ontario Line construction at Pape, with 72 Pape covering the service.
  • 72 Pape: extended north to Don Valley Station because of the Pape construction, with the 72C branch running from Don Valley Station to Commissioners.
  • 88A and 88B: restructured effective March 15, 2026. The 88A runs from St Clair Station to Thorncliffe Park, and the 88B runs from St Clair Station to Wicksteed via Laird Station. The fall summary describes this as a temporary diversion for Ontario Line work at Beth Nealson Drive.
  • 156 Millwood: a new route, added in the same March change, linking Thorncliffe Park and Wicksteed via Laird.
  • 100A and 100B Flemingdon Park: both listed as Broadview Station to Don Valley Station services, with the 100B running via Linkwood. This follows TTC's February 8, 2026 network changes tied to Line 5.

Pape's bus terminal partly reopened starting September 6, 2026, with changes to nearby service, including the 72 and 100. TTC's next round of citywide adjustments took effect November 1, 2026, and route 72 is on that list. Riders who used the 81 should check TTC's service adjustments page for the November schedule before planning a trip around it.

Put together, a resident who rode the 81 or the old 88 a year ago now has a different trip, and the change has nothing to do with the station fence. Metrolinx promises the bus stops at the dig will stay in service. The routes that stop at them are what changed.

The Neighbourhood's Everyday Addresses Sit Around the Dig

The station site is at one intersection, and the places that anchor daily life in Thorncliffe Park are spread along the same two streets. The notice's commitment to keep access open applies to every one of them.

45 Overlea Boulevard is the address of East York Town Centre. It holds both the Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office's Thorncliffe Park Community Hub, in Unit 200 through Entrance 6 near Fit4Less, and Kandahar Kabab, in Unit 180. TNO's calendar showed Weekend Family Fun sessions at the Hub on October 31.

Farther along Overlea, Bamiyan Kabob's East York location is at 62 Overlea Boulevard, Unit 3A, and Afghan Cuisine is at 66 Overlea Boulevard.

On Thorncliffe Park Drive, Iqbal Foods has its Toronto store at 100 Thorncliffe Park Drive. Thorncliffe Park Library is at 48 Thorncliffe Park Drive, and its program room hosts an English Conversation Circle on TNO's calendar. The library's own early-November listings include Youth Hub: Quiet Study & Resume Help on November 2 and Crafty Wednesday on November 4, both from 3:30 to 7 p.m.

R.V. Burgess Park is near Thorncliffe Park Drive and Overlea Boulevard, a short walk from the station corner. The City describes it as a 1.5-hectare park with a community garden, splash pad, playground, sheltered picnic area, and Canada's first public tandoor oven. The Thorncliffe Park Women's Committee, a grassroots public-space group based at 46 Thorncliffe Park Drive, describes its work in the park as including a park café, the garden, the splash pad and the outdoor tandoor.

All of these sit within a few blocks of the excavation, and none of them closes while it runs. The library, the Hub, the park and the Overlea restaurants will all be on the same streets as the fence until 2030. They will all still be there when the fence comes down.

The Dates Ahead, Near and Far

Most of these timelines run in years, with two dates in November close enough to plan around:

  1. November 5: Metrolinx's notice list includes overnight test-pit investigations on Don Mills Road between Wynford Drive and Eglinton Avenue East.
  2. Nights of November 13 and 14: southbound curb lanes on the Don Valley Parkway close from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. for temporary scaffolding at the Lower Don Bridge. Expect delays and some minor overnight noise. The same closure ran on November 1 and 2.
  3. January 31, 2028: the expected end of the Millwood–Overlea temporary access worksite and its partial bike-lane closure.
  4. Mid-2028: the expected end of pier construction for the Don Valley Crossing south of Leaside Bridge.
  5. August 2030: the expected end of work at Thorncliffe Park Station.
